The conference was founded in 1978 as the Trans America Athletic Conference, before becoming the ASUN (formerly the Atlantic Sun Conference) on July 1, 2020. In addition to sponsoring varsity sports, the ASUN Conference also serves as a platform for collaboration among its member universities. The ASUN Championship is awarded to the team with the best regular-season record, while the ASUN Cup is awarded to the team with the best overall performance in the conference’s tournament and regular-season competitions. The conference is divided into two divisions – Atlantic and Sun – and its members compete for the ASUN Championship and the ASUN Cup. The conference also sponsors non-championship events in other sports including volleyball, beach volleyball, and rowing. The ASUN Conference sponsors championships in basketball, baseball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, and track & field. The conference is headquartered in Macon, Georgia, and all of its members are located in the southeastern United States.
